Amy this sounds amazing - I was reading it so happy you got to do this and so jealous (to be honest!) because it sounds perfect - and then I got to the terrible part that they are closing it down. Just terrible. I am sorry.
This really captures what makes the Festival so special, not just the classes, but the community, the encouragement, and the sense that everyone's story matters. It's heartbreaking to think of that being lost. Thank you for putting these feelings into words🙏🏽🫡.
I first heard about the Iowa Writers’ Workshop & it’s fame from my aunt who had been at Iowa working on her Master’s in the 1930’s. My friend & writing partner Nan, took part in many Iowa Summer Writing Festival workshops over the years & finally convinced me to join her for my first Summer Writing Festival weekend last year where I met you, Amy. I’m sorely disappointed that it’s ended now for more focused learning of what would have made my goal of becoming a writer more fine tuned. 😟😩😤
I, too, am devastated about the ending of the Iowa Summers Writing Festival. I considered it for this summer but decided that would be more beneficial for me to do a year of writing my Substack with its 100-word micro memoirs before I took part. I thought the period of time of trying, and discovering on my own would prepared me well for a workshop. After all, we learn best by making mistakes. I’m glad you have the experience.

Such a beautiful tribute. Sharing on FB with the many friends grieving this loss.

I'm so sorry to hear that the summer workshop is ending. Such a loss. However, I'm glad that you were able to attend. I can hear the book calling you.

Pat - I’ll keep you posted if I hear about other workshop opportunities in Iowa City!
Where can I pre-order the Amy Colbert book :-)
You’ll be the first to know, Dawn!
